I think Sennheiser HD229 aims for teenager users, so its audio tone is quite different from HD 219, while HD 219 characterized as quite “flat” that is friendly for most users, Sennheiser HD229 offers a great bass, full mid tone for vocals, and wider soundstage. Or on the other hand, I think Sennheiser HD229 has more “musical” character, it is a headphones that comes with a unique character, some users may find it too blur or too dark for them, but for me, I think this is the reason you buy Sennheiser headphones, because you love its audio character. Personally, I preferred a tone of AKG headphones I think it is clearer, but it is depends on your preference. So, between Sennheiser HD229 vs HD 219, I think you should go with the expensive one.
