Unlike a Kindle Fire that comes with Gorilla Glass that I think cover is unnecessary, lighter cover for Kindle 4 is something interesting due to the fact that it is Amazon’s official cover for its Kindle 4 so you don’t have to worry if they won’t fit and it is a leather cover that normally it is a half price of Kindle 4 (and that is the reason I think it is ridiculous to buy a cover with the 50% price of actual ebook reader),

but with Mother’s day 2012 deal, you can have a lighted cover for Kindle 4 with the price of around 35 USD, that’s I think it makes sense. So, if you are looking for the ebook reader for your mom as a gift for this coming Mother’s Day, due to its deal, I think it is one of an interesting choice, if your mom doesn’t have eyes problem, Kindle 4 is one of the simplest and lightest and very easy to use from its series, (you can read my Kindle 4 review here), but in contrast, if your mom has eyes problem, I think a refurbished Kindle DX Graphite is one of an interesting choice.

Will you trade a touchscreen feature for glares ?, this is what you should be aware of when thinking about getting one of a touchscreen ebook reader. Is touchscreen feature worth it ? By far, there are around 4 major touchscreen ebook readers that are premium ereaders : Kobo Touch, Kindle Touch, Sony Reader Wi-Fi and B&N Nook Simple Touch, as well as premium ebook readers : Kindle 4, Kindle 3, Kobo Reader, and Sony Reader. the price of a touchscreen ebook reader is not so expensive than a touchscreen ebook reader, it is just more around 20-30 USD from a none touchscreen one, So I don’t think the added up cost is not a problem, but the question is should you buy a touchscreen ebook reader over a non-touch screen ereader ?
Touchscreen e-ink display technology adds a lot faster navigation with a natural gestures controlling system to your ebook reader by tap, swipe, and pinch, you can use a multi-touch gesture to zoom-in and out when watching photos, zoom in for a web browsing, an onscreen keyboard to take notes while you read, touchscreen & pop up dictionary, and highlight function. I have to say these features make ebook reading more convenient, especially for note taking, highlight, and dictionary and it is very impressive.
So, I think to decide which type of ebook ereader that you should buy, you may need to ask yourself, what is your reading habit ?, do you often make highlights while you read ? or do you often take notes while you read ?, if not, I think a simple ereader like Kindle 4 is good enough with less glare display, but if you love a touchscreen feature, perhaps, glares is what you have to trade in, or you should go with Android tablet that can be used as ereader ?
If you want to buy a Kindle Touch but you are not living in U.S. and thinking about Kindle 4 buying instead, you don’t need to do that any more !, Sony PRS-T1WC is a touhcscreen ebook reader that allowed you to do everything that Kindle Touch offers with a better features ! , and also if you are worry about how to buy ebook, since Sony PRS-T1WC is an Android OS ebook reader, you can use your Amazon account to buy ebook from Kindle store, and also if you are already have a Kindle account, you can use your owned account with Sony PRS-T1WC. So, in my opinion, Sony PRS-T1WC is a perfect Kindle Touch replacement for international ebook readers who want to buy a touchscreen ebook reader.
And how bout Sony PRS-T1WC compared to Kindle touch and Kindle 4 ? I have do some test about both Kindle 4 and Sony PRS-T1WC international order and here is my result (price could be different, based on your location) :
For a Kindle 4 international order, it had cost me around 175 USD to order and ship to my country. ( Amazon Kindle 4 price for international shipping is 109 USD plus handling, shipping and tax).
While with Sony PRS-T1WC, I have to pay around 200 USD to ship Sony PRS-T1WC to my country, or on the other hand, there is around 25 USD difference between Sony PRS-T1WC and Kindle 4 to ship to my country and you have to ask yourself this : Will you pay more 25 USD, for a touchscreen, stylus, onscreen dictionary, super fast multitouch gesture navigation ebook reader ? In my opinion, Sony PRS-T1WC is worth for 25 USD extra !
And also with Sony PRS-T1WC, you have choices, if you don’t want to buy ebook from Amazon, you can also buy ebook from Sony Ereader’s official online store (if it is available in your country), or you can buy someplace else, Sony PRS-T1WC is more open to ebook formats than Kindle. But if Ereader is not available in your country, you don’t need to worry because you can always buy ebook from Amazon, globally via Kindle app for Android.
No benefit for international Kindle owner on Amazon Prime membership “Kindle Owners’ Lending Library”
This is a very disappointing !, today I browse to Amazon page and the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library is thrilling me, for 79 USD a year I can borrow one book a month for for on year with no due date, or on the other hand, I can buy 12 Kindle books per year with a price of 79 USD, so I decide to become a Prime member with 1 month free trial, and what I discovered is sad ! I cannot access the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library page on my Kindle as Amazon advertised and even if I try to browse it from my laptop, so I try to find the answer and this is what I’ve found on Amazon’s Kindle Owners’ Lending Library’s help page : ” The Kindle Owners’ Lending Library allows eligible U. S. Amazon Prime members who own Kindle devices”., I think I have to cancel my Prime membership instantly !, I am very envy for Kindle owners who live in the U.S. !

Since I had my Kindle 4, I bought around 4 Kindle books in 2 weeks and today also I have bought a book called “The Skinny on Willpower: How to Develop Self Discipline”, it is a self-help comes in a cartoon style, at first I read it on my IPad 2 and then I switch to my Kindle 3, and I think it’s too small to read a comics book from 6 inch screen so I switch to my Kindle DX Graphite which I did not read it for a long time and it’s screen quality and screen size brown me away ! The reason I decided to buy Kindle 4 because I think I need the portable ebook reading device, which Kindle 4 serves me well and I think I have to sell my Kindle DX Graphite because it is to heavy and not so good to bring around, but today I realized that Kindle DX Graphite has its strong point, DXG may be slower, heavier and lack of wifi but one thing that Kindle 4 can not compete is the screen size that bring a good reading experience.

So, if it possible, buy one of a cheap Kindle 4 for traveling or mobile purpose and another Kindle DX Graphite to read at your home or in your weekends where you don’t have to carry much of stuffs, just you, Kindle DX Graphite and coffee !
So people from Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and Portugal can read Kindle 4 ebooks in their own language !
I am so envy that Amazon decides to add more 6 languages on its Kindle 4, this means people who live in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and Portugal can use Kindle 4 in their own language starts from home screen to ebook buying, the interesting thing is Amazon is not yet fully localize its Kindle 4, all of Kindle international buyers have to buy Kindle 4 and Kindle ebooks from Amazon.com including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and Portugal (except for Amazon.uk), I known that there are many Kindle plug-ins in many languages including mind that enable readers to read in their languages, but I don’t know if this legal and that is the option that I don’t want to try. So congratulation for the first six countries and I wish it will be develop for all countries soon !
Kindle Fire is not about the cheap tablet only, but it is about the Cloud Drive and Cloud computing, which both of these rely on internet connection speed, because Amazon decides to places its Fire as the media content reader, not the storage, so most of the time, your Fire needs to the internet, even listening to music, and movie watching, to save the storage space, yes you might say you can download it and listen to your music collections online as well as movie collections,
but I don’t think that matched what Amazon has in mind with its latest tablet, so, again, internet connection speed plays the important role here, I mean you can order, Kindle Fire to use in your country, but if your country like mine that internet connection speed is not the top-of-the-world super fast connection like the U.S., I don’t think you reach the essence of Fire, just a cheap tablet with no camera, and no bluetooth, if you cannot maximize your Cloud Drive and Cloud computing experience, it is no use to order Kindle Fire, especially for third world country, unlike the previous Kindle 3 release that Amazon can sell it worldwide, compare to Fire, Kindle Keyboard and Kindle DX Graphite rely almost none on internet connection, but on the other hand, for people who is not live in the U.S., we have a chance to buy a cheaper Kindle 4 !
At this point, I am quite sure that Amazon tablet is just a start for something bigger, what’s Amazon aiming is not only a small cut from the U.S. tablet market, but it is the digital content selling that Amazon tries to accomplish ! How much have you spend for apps on your IPad, IPhone and IPod touch ? I think perhaps it is more than a price of the device itself, Amazon has been preparing its digital media services for quite sometime : Amazon prime for movie rental and buying in the digital download format, as well as MP3 downloading – at this point, Amazon has not yet come up with a cool name for the music store but after Amazon tablet has been released I think MP3 download store would known as one of a cool store for music download, Kindle store for ebook download, and Android apps for games and lifestyle apps, if this is what Amazon try to do I think it deserves its throne of no.1 best online store in the world, the power of think big !
